DaVinci Code-Where the Church stands

Everyone says this is "just fiction" yet readers get confused when the first pages of the book state that the book is TRUE! The lies within the fiction book that SAY they are true show a false image of the Catholic Church and of Christ.
Think about this: say someone wrote a book about someone you loved that was full of lies that made them look bad. Granted, the writing is excellent and it is a good story, but it completely ruins your friend. Would you promote the book saying it is "just fiction" or would you stand up for your friend? In the Davinci Code Jesus is the one it ruins..... What will you do?
