I am so happy to have a couple days off this weekend to recouperate from a crazy week or business! We finally got the chance to take the girls on a 3 day back packing trip up the canyon behind the ranch to Deep Lake. Fr. Mark, Joe and JD (the counselors here) came too which was nice just to have some extra support. However, Fr. Mark ended up feeling really sick and literally could not make it any further. It was weird since he is in great shape and has never had a problem with the trail. There is talk he was experiencing a minor heart attack and I was realizing in mass this morning how bad it could have been and how much God was looking out for us. He is now going through some tests so please keep him in your prayers. The bummer was that the trail up to Deep Lake goes through some major burn areas from a forest fire. Deep Lake itself is full of trees, but we ended up camping in the burnt area. However, it was still fun and it was great being able to sleep outside! I love doing things like this too because the girls get their own conseqences from nature when they make mistakes. One of the girls is on the cooking challenge which means she cooks all the meals. The first day she did fine making oatmeal and then the second morning for some reason she decided to make 3 times as much. The girls could either pack it out and eat it the next day or finish it then and it was A LOT of oatmeal. I think they all had 4 large helpings. However, these girls can EAT (I think because it is their last vice) and though they were full, they weren't so bad that they couldn't walk, which is where any of us would have been. Oh the lessons they learn! It was great being with ALL the staff for the full 3 days because that NEVER happens except for a few short hours on Mondays! The other GREAT news is that I got to see Dad yesterday morning as he went out of his way to stop here on his way to his fishing trip. :)
